Over eight years ago, I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis & Palindromic Rheumatism and prescribed many different drugs.
Eight years on at 54 years of age, I now take no prescription drugs which is something in this day and age.
I’ve not had to take any for the past six years and have only had to visit my doctor three times in that same time frame.
Although diagnosed, none of my underlying health conditions causes me symptoms I cannot live with.
I visited my doctor and different departments regularly for over three years for many appointments and took lots of time off work.
That Was Then This Is Now
The only sign that I may have an inflammatory arthritic condition is the little finger of my right hand, It gives me no pain and no discomfort; it’s just a little out of shape, that’s all.
Living with arthritis, dealing with the constant pain and taking so much time away from the job that I loved slowly lead me to become depressed.
That’s when even more drugs came into play.
However, the good new’s is that I no longer take any prescription drugs, and that includes anti-depressants.
Hydroxychloroquine Was the First Drug Prescribed to Treat My Arthritis.
I prescribed a lot of medication, including the most controversial drug of 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hydroxychloroquine was the first course of drugs they put me on.
It did a great job with elevating my symptoms, including my joints’ swelling, chronic back pain and restricted mobility.
The downside to the upside, however, was that the acute side effects I experienced.
For me, it was the loss of smell and taste, I couldn’t live with that, and I love my food too much.
Hydroxychloroquine has been used in the treatment of Malaria for many decades.
Its use is well established in the role of managing rheumatic diseases.
Conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, skin diseases and the treatment of chronic Q fever.
It works by suppressing the immune system which begins to mistakenly attack the normal cells in your body.
Feeling Drugged Up All the Time Is Not A Good Thing!
My doctor prescribed a different medication, which seemed to do the trick in the short term, especial with pain and mobility.
Having to manage pain and disease with prescribed medication and strong pain killers was not a good experience.
Over two years, I rapidly went downhill and ended up on anti-depressants along with all the other medication I was taking.
I was even on medication to counteract all the other medicines I was on. Crazy!!
I took so much time off work that I eventually had to resign for health reasons and started my own business.
Viruses Are Not to Be Feared They Need to Be Understood.
Over the past years, I have had to take stock of my physical and mental health.
I guess you could describe me as that annoying kid that keeps asking the question “why? over and over and over again.
However, no longer a child by any stretch of the imagination. I research instead, I like to know how it works and why it works, or I just don’t get it.
I like to check things out, “if you don’t understand it in the first instance, put it neutral until you find out”.
A sensible approach to take these days, I think this advice that makes perfect sense.
2020 Was A Shock To The System!
Serious concerns about COVID-19 have instigated a real urgency to improve my health and my lifestyle.
It took everything that has happened in 2020 and moving forward into 2021 along with my age (54) seriously motivated and inspired me.
I am on a mission to learn more about the human immune system, seeking better ways to improve its overall effectiveness and performance.
I’m petty susceptible to stress and anxiety, another health factor that needs taking into consideration when improving immune system health.
The Effects of Stress, It Takes Its Toll
Feelings of stress and anxiety are common nowadays due to COVID 19 and the pandemic.
Wearing masks, the series of lockdowns, restrictions, social distancing and isolation from close family, friends, those we Love has been traumatic.
I want to share some of the experience I have acquired over the years, the research I’ve done and the things I have learnt.
I want to help improve health and alleviate stress by taking a holistic approach using a natural defence mechanism that is your immune system.
I will also be passing on lots of factual information and super beneficial tips.
Travelling has helped me with this; I’ve also evolved into a bit of a “fact-checker”.
Trying to wade through all the lies, alternative information, and acts of deliberately spreading misinformation can be overwhelming.
It’s a good idea for me to mention a few things at this point, firstly I am not a doctor or health guru.
In conjunction with life experiences; I do my research, seek out factual information, and take note of only those whose opinions matter.
Partaking in a glass of wine or two after a long day working or not working is something I look forward to.
My diet is varied, I love the occasional steak, ribs, fries and all the trimmings.
However, I do need to introduce more exercise into my lifestyle, this too contributes towards attaining a healthier lifestyle and immune system.
My intention is to always be as accurate as I can and present what I believe to be factual, informative, and beneficial to you.
Protecting your health and sanity is a sensible solution, and the best place to start right now, in my opinion, would be with your immune system.
